The year is 1923..

French microbiologist Henri Boulard is transiting Southeast Asia and finds himself caught in the middle of a cholera epidemic. He discovers that the locals make tea on the peel of lychee and mangosteen fruit to relieve the acute diarrhea brought on by cholera, which makes him curious.

Discovery of the world's first probiotic mushroom

Henri decided to study the fruits more closely and finds a yeast fungus with unique properties. The world's first probiotic yeast fungus is thus discovered.

Henri Boulard named the yeast fungus Boulardii after his own surname and then sold his research and patents to a French pharmaceutical company in the 50s who took the research further. Since then, Boulardii has It has been scientifically studied in more than 100 clinical trials and is now available in antidiarrheal medicines in more than 90 countries worldwide.
